A little note from Jonathan

This is a quick note to my beautiful family - Katie and Silas. My amazing wife knows much about me, and though she has a pretty good idea how much Silas means to me, I suspect that she has little idea how much of a part of my world she is. This quick post is to remind them both.

Silas, my life hasn't been the same since the first time I held you moments after your birth. I wanted to tell you amazing things and make monumental promises to you. All I could muster at the time was a profound sense of joy and awe that I've never known and a promise to help you live a better life than I've known. Though I'll always do as much as I can, I promise I will fail to give you the example I'd like you to have... but if you're a son like I am, you won't even notice that your dad doesn't wear a cape. I love you more than you could ever know and you will always be my beautiful little boy.

Katie... you came into my life at a time when I thought I was getting it all together. Times had been tough, but I was (kinda) standing on my own two feet and didn't need anyone. That first night I knew something amazing was happening when the party faded around our conversations... and within weeks found myself in disbelief thinking that I was in love already... after just a week...? My life has not been the same, for the good, since. You have encouraged me to chase my dreams to the other side of the country and unlike me, have never doubted that I am making the world a better place simply by walking through it. There may be gifts more important than being my family, bringing our sweet Silas into the world and that belief in me, but I couldn't tell you what that would be. Thank you for being my partner, through the good and the bad, and I hope simply to be the partner you deserve and for a lifetime of growing together. I love you.

With all the love possible in this simple heart, I love you both.

Jonathan/Dad
