Happy 3 Months, Asa!

Three months, already!?!?! My big, beautiful boy - full of huge-mouthed smiles, which create half-moon eyes. You are a sweet, sweet beauty. How did we get so lucky?

This month has been - yet again - a time of joy with you! You give smiles like it's going out of style! You even smile on command. A little tickle on your cheek, chin or nose is a guaranteed method of eliciting the most heart-warming grin that a parent could ask for! Even at the grocery store, with friends, basically anywhere we go, you give out those smiles freely, making everyone else smile in return!

The biggest change in the past month is that one week ago, your mama had to go back to work 2.5 days/week...which meant a shift in the only lifestyle you've ever known. Rather than lingering in bed, either nursing or snuggling, your mom is up and getting ready, needing to get you up and ready too. At 8:30am I drop you off at our neighbor Janette's home for the day. With a bag packed with a bottle, extra milk, a spare outfit, binkies, burp cloths and a swaddle blanket, we head one block away for your daytime care. Not surprisingly, you've been a dream-baby and perfect house guest for Janette. You take your bottle easily for her (but not for your dad when it's his turn!), take lots of naps and smile, smile, smile! At 5:30pm, I knock on Janette's door to pick you up...and you're usually being cuddled and grinning, ready to be handed back over to mom! This is working out so well - and while this ease is just in your nature, I am so grateful for it! One Fridays you're home with your dad. It's only been one week, and I'm only gone half a day on Fridays, but you slept a lot...and refused to drink your bottle for him! Luckily, I came home right in time to help fill your belly!

Your brother came home with a bad cough (I think it was croup) about 2 weeks ago. I tried to keep you two apart as much as possible...but I think the germs made their way to your little body, as 5 days ago, you got a nasty cold. We've suctioned out your nose SO MANY times the past few days - with the green bulb, and the electric nose-sucker. You hate it - and the amount of snot coming out is simply impressively gross! A tiny little cough has accompanied the congestion, but not too bad. Through it all, your temperament has remained as sweet and happy as ever. See, I told you we're lucky! I can tell you're going to have a more relaxed upbringing than your poor, first-born brother...I would have taken him to the doctor straight-away...with you, we knew to what to watch for, and saved ourselves the $20 co-pay to hear the doctor gently remind us that colds are viruses and there's nothing to do but let your immune system do its job!

You are still solely breastfed, which makes me happy! The amount I pump at work seems to be equal, if not more than what you're eating during the day. You still eat every 3 hours during the day. I usually get a nice, long break in the evening. You'll eat around 8:30pm, and then fall asleep, not waking again to eat for about 5 hours. Even though it means you're growing up, I welcome the extra rest! This past month we spent a lot of time with Jessica and Baby Rowan (who is exactly one month younger than you). It was nice to have a mama-friend to share the joys and challenges with together during the day. I hope you and Rowan will be buddies for a long time!

Sweet boy, you are loved by so many - but most of all by your mom, dad and big brother!
