31 Down, 9 To Go!

Jonathan is famous again!

And in other news.......

Oh, sweet mother of all things holy and sacred...SINGLE digits?!?!? Only 9 more weeks to go? That is simultaneously awesome and freaky. I've been on bed rest for 8 weeks...and that's felt like an eternity. So maybe 9 weeks will also be eternity-like.

The past few days have been a little rough. I'm fighting some sort of cough/sore throat. Last time I got a cold, it lasted 3 solid weeks. UGH. I can't handle that again. I've also started being much less physically comfortable being flat all the time. Achy and sore in my left hip, my back, everywhere. And feeling some emotional stress about work, about all the little things I think I'm supposed to be doing (interviewing pediatricians, birthing class, researching day cares, etc.). I've definitely been focusing on the negatives...I should just shift my focus to get ready to celebrate the arrival of Grovie!

At 31 weeks, here's what the babe is up to:

- From this week on, Grovie will continue to gain around ½ pound a week until shortly before birth.

- Grovie can now process information from all five senses—so s/he'll be all set to smell the pureed peas, taste them, feel them as s/he mashes them into his/her hair, hear us crack up and then see the flash as we grab the camera to snap picture after picture.

- By now, your Grovie's lungs are the only system not fully mature. And by mature, we're not saying that the rest of Grovie's systems are mature enough to be out past 10 PM with the neighborhood hooligan, just that her lungs need a little bit more time to bake before they can kick it in the outside world.

- The Grovester weighs about 3½ pounds and measures a little over 16 inches.

You should be super proud of JDawg and the better environment he is making for Baby Grovie.

Wow, you did it! I will say, it seems like you've been on bed rest longer than that to me too...

about all the little things I think I'm supposed to be doing (interviewing pediatricians, birthing class, researching day cares, etc.)

So, I am going to offer some unsolicited feedback about this stuff. NOT worth the stress. First off, not one pediatrician in our neighborhood was even able to do an interview with us. When we asked, we got little sarcastic retorts from office staff. So, maybe Tacoma is a more receptive arena for that. But if not, I would offer that Grovie doesn't have to have the perfect doc right away anyway. Gracie was 3 months old before I was able to talk with people and really find our good doctor. The first doctor's visit is just a short check up, and any OK doc can do that. Our first pediatrician was someone our OB recommended. Also, hate to say it, but the birthing classes are not all that imperative I don't think. You already know your hospital. Maybe just research online about what the instruments and monitors and stuff look like? That was the most helpful part for us. Also, breathing techniques are kind of good to learn. If you're not able to attend classes, email me, and I'll send you the materials I got from mine. I know I still have them. Love you! Nine weeks will fly!!
