So many things to celebrate today!!!
The 2004 Presidential Election was held on my birthday...I've gotta say, the idea of 4 more years of Bush was the worst birthday present ever. I remember my heart just sinking with the fear of what could happen to the United States (and the world) under this man's leadership. I think that fear was more than justified. As Bush's days as President dwindle, my smile gets bigger.
Now, like most commentators are writing about the general feeling about Obama's success, I feel so optimistic! I deeply believe that under Bush's leadership, our country has gotten itself into a desperate position. Now I feel hope for our future again. I feel proud to live in a "blue state." Finally! I've only been old enough to vote in the past three presidential elections. The first time in Arizona - red. The second time in Virginia - red. And now finally in Washington - blue!
Props to Virginia for giving its electoral votes to Obama this year! First time going Democratic since 1964. Excellent! Thumbs down to Arizona for approving the ban on gay marriage! I don't get it. I really don't get it. There's enough misery in the world, why purposefully put a limit on the happiness and rights of others? It pisses me off. (Same feeling to California and Florida too - I just have a deeper connection to AZ!)
And of course, our other reason to celebrate...today marks Week 27! I was in the hospital 4 weeks ago, can you believe it? Now Grovie is just that much bigger, more developed and should have about a 72% chance of survival if s/he is born this week! We all know that 27 weeks pregnant means - only 13 more weeks of bed rest!!!
Here are the exciting things going on for Grovie this week:
- Grovie's lungs and immune system are maturing this week as s/he prepares for his grand entrance.
- Grovie's brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace. His/Her brain waves are now firing away just like those of a newborn baby. If Grovie is a he, his testes will have completely descended at this point.
- Grovie weighs in at approximately 14½ inches and just over 2 pounds.

Happy birthday, my scorpio friend! I am sorry I didn't realize it passed. Let's just pretend I went running - a miraculous thing - in honor of you...
Yes, we'd probaly have a lot to share/enlighten each other with if we chose to talk politics a lot. I'm kinda off in my own world - not mixing 100% with anyone! I guess that's why I'm registered Independant. I wasn't happy with some of Bush's leadership either, but I've always wondered how different would things be under a democrat President during the past 8 years. I don't think the Pres can really take credit for everything. But I'm not into it all enough to accurately make predictions.
I was so sad too, with AZ's anti-gay prop. The sad thing is, it was heavily portrayed as "protecting marriage" and the word "gay" was never used. Poor little Jen, Blue's 17 year old sister was so worried that if it passed she wouldn't be able to marry in the temple when her time came. Someone seriously told her that LDS weddings would be over if the prop failed. It wasn't easy trying to convince her that was just not true.
Good luck. My friend had her girl at 29 - no, 30 weeks, and she's just fine. Crazy. We were pregnant at the same time.
I had no idea 2004 was on your birthday. How hard and yucky. We cried with disappointment. I, too, am rejoicing and optimistic about the days to come. Unfortunately, I feel like my husband and I live in the wrong state. AZ is more Republican than ever after this election. And we are hearing all about how Obama will raise taxes after all, how McCain ran such a great campaign (he just ran out of money during the primaries, but whatever), and we are STILL afraid to put bumper stickers on our cars because of our crazy way right neighbors. Not that every right leaner is crazy, but these people totally are. It is a sad, sad thing when you fear for your child's safety if you express your own political leanings. Ah well. And the gay marriage thing. YARF. Bigotry legalized, as far as I'm concerned. But I am not surprised in the least. Churches were putting "Yes on 102" signs on their campuses. I think our country needs to take a long, hard look at separation of church and state...some of us need a refresher course.
