Another week, another week! We've made it to 30 weeks now! I feel like this past week just flew by! So Grovie is officially 3/4 of the way baked. Think of Grovie as a Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie...if you had to cook your pie for a total of 40 minutes, you'd only have 10 more minutes left of baking until you could sink your teeth into a tasty little treat. Grovie a la mode? Is this just getting a little too gross now?
So what's the little pumpkin pie up to these days?
- Big news for Grovie's brain this week: It's starting to wrinkle and fold and looks like something that grew in the back of your fridge. This is due to the rapid growth of the little genius's brain cells.
- Grovie's fingernails and toenails are finally finished! Plus, the bone marrow is completely in charge of red-blood-cell production now.
- Grovie is starting to shed lanugo—the downy hair that was covering his/her skin. Now that s/he's chubbier and better able to regulate body temp, s/he doesn't need to sport a fur coat 24/7.
- When the Grovester is awake, his/her eyes are now wide open and s/he's whittling away the hours looking around, checking out the rather dark, limited environs.
- Grovie hasn't gained much weight or height this week, as most of her/his energy's been channeled to the brain. Grovie weighs about 3 pounds and is approximately 15.5 inches long.
As an added side note, Grovie gets lots of hiccups lately - which is totally cute. From what I read, it means that the baby is practicing swallowing and is a great sign of development. It usually lasts about 5-8 minutes and is usually by my right hip - the perfect hiccup location.
Jonathan pointed out two matching stretch marks on either side of my lower belly last night. Awesome. They were kind of tender to the touch - is that normal? I heard that stretch marks don't show up until the very end...does that mean I have 10 more weeks of watching these little suckers pop up all over my belly? Wah.

HOW EXCITING IS THIS?!! You are really, truly almost there. The last 10 weeks flew by for me. When is your shower?
I got the hiccups all the time, too, when I was a tadpole. I get them constantly now as well.
About the marks, I don't think so. I got a network of them on my left butt cheek (gorgeous!) kind of early on, and that was it. I just checked, and they're just about gone now. I think the tenderness is completely normal...it's just the skin reacting to a sudden change in girth (for a wonderful cause, of course). About the almost passing out feeling. I used to get that feeling kind of frequently, especially if I was in a warm room with lots of people. I used to get really panicky during meetings at work, and then a man I worked with who has 8 kids told me to just go outside and walk around. It totally helped! Maybe that's something that could help you, too. Or not.
